General
Are your puppies and dogs guaranteed?
All our dogs are covered by a written guarantee.
When will your next litter be due?
We will try to keep an update on this site as to what breedings we are planning for the future.
How can we get one of Hi/Lo’s puppies?
We try to have a small number of "good" pet homes already reserved prior to doing a breeding. Because of our dedication to placing our pups in a loving "forever" home we will first want to conduct interviews, not only for you to get to know us and our dogs, but to better understand exactly what you are looking for in your new pet. We feel this enables us to better place our pups in a happy situation where they will be appreciated and reach the goals the owners are expecting of them. For example: if we have a person looking for a dog that will be perfectly happy to lay by their side while they work at the office, we will look for the very easy going pup probably the happiest when layimg in your arms. A person looking for a pet that will be outside playing with the kids all day, we will look for the happy go lucky pup with a lot of energy to spare, loves toys etc..Each and every dog has a very distinct personality. We want to place the puppy with the temperament that will best suit the new owners desires.
Whenever possible, we prefer that you come to visit us and our dogs. If you are located in another state we would require references, both written and we will be glad to call and speak directly with a vet, trainer etc.
Will you ship pups/dogs?
When we do ship, it must be on a direct flight and the weather should not be another stress factor put on the pup/dog. All fees will be paid by the new owner, and transportation arrangements will be provided by Hi/Lo Pet Transport only.
How do you price your dogs?
Before we sell you a dog we will evaluate their quality as far as show potential and pet quality. This will be stated in your written contract.
All of our pets are sold for $800.00+ tax. Show quality will be priced according to their show potential.
If I get a "pet" quality puppy will it not be as pretty or smart as a show dog?
Wrong! In most cases there is very little difference in the appearance of the puppies. It could be as simple as a tilted ear, difference of structure, maybe doesn’t carry itself the way we would like to see ,eye color ,etc. Most people wanting a pet can not even tell the difference between pet and show quality. You will still be getting an animal that has the same breeding behind it ,since we strive to make and improve our lines for structure, health etc in every breeding that we do, your pup will be the result of the same breeding ,care etc.
If you have any further questions either before or after you have one of our dogs, we will always be here to answer them to the best of our ability.
We will be glad to provide you with references from some of our pup buyers.
Breeding
I am looking for is a puppy that has a good bloodline and not in-bred.
It would take me much to long to go into an explanation of inbreeding, linebreeding and outcrosses. I believe that even this point you should leave to a person who has studied these methods of breeding, one who knows what is behind the lines that they are combining. It is possible to breed for better temperament and health, just as you breed for structure and beauty when doing linebreedings.
I'm looking for a puppy who’s parents have a good temperament and will be good around children.
There again the help of a reliable breeder will be your best guide. They are familiar with the different temperaments that their lines can produce. Most have bitches that they have bred before (giving them the opportunity to watch their pups and how they matures physically and how their personalities develop). This will assist the breeder in choosing which puppy has a personality and natural abilities that best suits the buyers desires. Having experience in raising and socializing puppies gives the good breeder the knowledge to advise how each pup should be handled in order to reach its’ full potential. Then it is up to the new owner and family to carry on when the breeder has turned their care over to you.
Pet Shop vs. Breeder
Why would I would be better off buying a puppy from you rather than a person who advertises in the newspaper that their dogs are AKC registered or from a pet shop?
Example: A pup advertised as AKC registered, parents on premises:
Mr. Smith has a female German Shepherd( they think that she is wonderful even though she is a little scared of anyone other than their family members.) He would like his kids to see the puppies being born and to keep one of the puppies from her. Mr. Smith sees a pretty German Shepherd that lives down the road, he hates all people other than his family members, but he is so pretty and he has papers also. All Mr. Smith knows is that they are pretty and have papers. He has no idea about the health, temperament or any reasons why they should or shouldn’t be bred. He doesn’t know about tests that should be performed before a breeding should ever take place. Mr. Smith would be very sad if he lost his bitch and all the puppies because of a low grade infection. Don't think the owner of the male would be real happy if a week after doing the breeding their male becomes ill either. What about the proper care and nutrition that a bitch requires to take care of a litter before and after they are born? Does he know when to wean the puppies, how and when to worm the pups, what should he would do if the bitch has a problem while whelping, when should he give shots? Is he going to take care of all the puppies even if he doesn’t find buyers? (his one pup may be okay, but what about the other pups?) Will he recognize symptoms that may indicate a serious problem? Does he know how to socialize, feed and care for these babies in order to give them the best start on life? Will he know how to expose them to different surroundings, footing, sounds, people, dogs etc? Even separating puppies too early from their siblings can affect the way they accept other animals later in life, staying with Mom and letting her teach them manners and discipline, so many things that help your puppy reach its full potential.
A reputable breeder, such as ourselves,
will know the answers to all these vital questions and will take care of the
pups in the best manner necessary to ensure that the pet you get will be of
the very best quality and temperament for your family.
